UPCOMING EVENTS

“Once You Cross the Ocean” is a flight from Bulgaria to New York on which six people are packed into one body. What is it like to immigrate? How do you recreate your culture in another country? What image would you like people to have of your homeland abroad?
In this one-person documentary performance, Bulgarian theater-maker and Fulbright scholar Martina Novakova uses verbatim theater - the exact recreation of the words and gestures of interviewees - to bring to life the real stories of Bulgarian artists based in New York. "Once You Cross the Ocean" investigates how we become translators of our own culture in a foreign sociocultural context and how we carry our experienced territories in our bodies.
